Senior Transportation Engineer

Fife/Tacoma, WA
We are seeking a skilled designer specializing in Work Zone/Temporary Traffic Control plans to primarily serve
our California clients. The Traffic Control Plan (TCP) Designer will focus on temporary traffic control plans
on a long-term contract for multiple agencies in Southern California, while also supporting PH staff on
other traffic and transportation projects. These other projects may include traffic impact analyses, traffic
operations analyses, planning, and design tasks for various projects that may involve traffic signals,
roundabouts, roadway design, site development, illumination, signing, channelization, pedestrian and
bicycle infrastructure, accessibility, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and fiber optic
communications.
The TCP Designer works with the Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and other PH staff on
public municipal projects and private development projects. A PE or EIT License is preferred. AutoCAD,
technical writing, and good interpersonal skills are highly desirable. The salary range offered will be
based on experience.
Desired Qualifications include:

Strong knowledge of the California Watch Manual, California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (CA MUTCD), and other relevant traffic control guidelines and regulations.

Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting software for traffic control plan development.

Previous experience in traffic control design, preferably in the Southern California region.

Certified Traffic Control Designer is desirable.

Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities will include:

Designing and developing temporary traffic control plans for various construction, maintenance, and special events projects in compliance with the CA Watch Manual and CA MUTCD.

Staying updated with industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to traffic control design and implementation.

Utilizing AutoCAD drafting software to create accurate and detailed traffic control plans, including layout and placement of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices.

Reviewing and analyzing project specifications, traffic patterns, and site conditions to determine the appropriate traffic control measures.

Making independent assessments of engineering problems and recommending solutions.

Planning, coordinating, and executing work in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.

Researching and following jurisdictional requirements unique to each project.
Transportation Engineer, EIT/Entry Level
Fife/Tacoma, WA
We are looking for an EIT with a couple of years’ experience or a recent graduate with either a BSCE or
Master’s Degree in the Transportation Engineering field. The Transportation Engineer will complete
traffic impact analyses, traffic operations analyses, planning, and design tasks for various projects that
may involve traffic signals, roundabouts, roadway design, site development, illumination, signing,
channelization, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, accessibility, temporary traffic control, Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS), and fiber optic communications.
The Transportation Engineer works with the Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and other PH
staff on public municipal projects and private development projects. An EIT License is preferred.

Specific Tasks are anticipated to include:

Preparing Traffic Control Plans.

Preparing conceptual plans for intersections, roundabouts, corridors, and complete streets projects.

Preparing design Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E).

Developing Traffic Impact Analyses.
-
Completing Traffic Operations Analysis and Traffic Signal Timing.

Coordinating with review agencies, sub-consultants, and clients.
Responsibilities will include:

Ensuring technical accuracy, standard engineering practices, and the inclusion of appropriate documentation on various reports and design projects.

Evaluating engineering alternatives and resolving technical issues.
-
Performing engineering interpretation of specifications and drawings, documenting design modifications and assumptions, and coordination with the design team.

Making independent assessments of engineering problems and recommending solutions.

Planning, coordinating, and executing work in a safe, timely, cost-effective, and compliant manner.

Researching and following jurisdictional requirements unique to each project.

Performing quantity take-offs and preparing engineer’s estimates.

Utilizing AutoCAD to design plan and profile views for traffic signals, illumination, roadways, pedestrian and bicycle projects, grading, and utilities.
Senior Transportation Engineer
Fife/Tacoma, WA

We are looking for a Professional Engineer (PE) with 6+ years’ experience and a BSCE or Master’s
Degree in Transportation Engineering. This position will lead the project tasks for various traffic
engineering projects that may involve traffic signals, roundabouts, roadway design, non-motorized
improvements, rail crossings, illumination, signing, channelization, accessibility, temporary traffic
control, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and fiber optic communications.
The Senior Transportation Engineer works with the Principals, PEs, and other PH staff on public
municipal projects and private development projects. A Washington PE License is required. AutoCAD,
technical writing, and good interpersonal skills are highly desirable. The salary range offered will be
based on experience.
Primary Duties will include:

Preparing design plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for traffic signals, roadway lighting/signing/pavement markings, temporary traffic control and ITS elements.

Leading and performing on a variety of projects in traffic operations and multi-modal transportation engineering.
-
Operational Analysis of arterial networks, corridor signal synchronization/timing, and freeway corridors using simulation packages.
-
Preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for various transportation and ITS projects.
-
Interacting with multi-disciplinary and multi-office project teams.
Desired Experience and Education Requirements include:
-
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation, Electrical Engineering, or similar field.

6+ years of experience in Traffic Engineering Design.
-
A Washington PE license is required, or the ability to achieve one in the next one to two years.

Experience with client meetings, project management, and proposals is desirable.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Synchro, Vissim, Sidra, and Autoturn.

Working knowledge of industry practices and regulations.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
