Project Description:
After a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train on the Riverside Drive railroad crossing in 2014 and again in 2016, the need for a safer railroad crossing on Riverside Drive became abundantly clear. The City of Mount Vernon has teamed up with BNSF to create a safer railroad crossing that will include pedestrian gates, wayside horns, additional signage, and improved sidewalks and channelization. The funding that made this project possible was from a federal grant.
